This John Deere 8870 is a four-wheel-drive tractor from the 8070 series. These tractors were manufactured by John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa, USA from 1993 to 1996. The John Deere 8870 is equipped with a 10.1 L (619.0 cu·in) six-cylinder diesel engine and one of three transmissions: a partially synchronized transmission with 12 forward and 3 reverse gears, or a two-speed power shift transmission with 24 forward and 6 reverse gears, or a full powershift transmission with 12 forward and 2 reverse gears.

The 8870 four-wheel drive used the John Deere engine. It is a 10.1 L, 10,143 cm2, (619.0 cu·in) six-cylinder turbocharged after cooled diesel engine with 130.0 mm (5.12 in) of the cylinder bore and 127.0 mm (5 in) of the piston stroke. The compression ratio rating is 15.75:1. This engine produced 355 PS (261.0 kW; 350.0 HP) at 2,100 rpm of output power.

The John Deere 8870 is equipped with hydrostatic power steering, hydraulic wet discs brakes, Sound-Gard cab (standard), and 832.7 liters (220 US gal.; 183.2 Imp. gal) fuel tank.
