Matchbox '69 Yellow Cadillac Sedan Deville - Lesney Edition

In 2010 Matchbox produced a Collection of the Lesney Models. This yellow '69 Cadillac Sedan Deville with Black top is one of that Lesney Edition. It is in the 1:64 scale. Matchbox cars come in two sizes, the smaller one, 1:75 is usually classified as 1:64 - however, they can range from as small as 1:100 to even larger than 1:64. So they measure from 2.5 to 3 inches, or 6.5 to 7.5 cm in length.

It was Lesney Products that started the Matchbox line of authentic, detailed, die-cast models with a sturdy body and chassis in 1953. The blister pack contains a display/storage box to keep the car in, and is clearly marked as suitable for only for children 8 and older. In fact they have a warning on the back, that these are NOT suitable for children under 36 months (3 years old).

This Cadillac Sedan Deville is still in the original packaging so is as good as new. It is not currently on the list of the most rare and valuable models, but it may be in time.

After just one decade of producing a top-selling brand of small die-cast models, Matchbox was the most productive of such companies, having launched over 12,000 individual model lines, and produced over three billion models. No wonder even non-collectors like me have heard of Matchbox!

However. as the old proverb says, "What goes up, must come down." By the end of the 1970s Matchbox had financial difficulties and found itself in receivership. Eventually, it was bought up by Mattel in 1997, which brought the former rivals, Matchbox and Hot Wheels into the same house.
